I am a psychoanalyst working in a Lacanian orientation with 19 years of experience. I have a practice in Shoreditch, London. I offer sessions in English and in Portuguese for adults, young adults as well as couples. I also offer individual supervision to trainees. I have worked as a supervisor and as a Clinical Services Manager in two Counselling Centres. My background is in Clinical Psychology. In 2005 I finished my studies at PUC University in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. I joined the psychoanalytical training at Centre of Freudian Analysis and Research (CFAR) in 2006 which lead to my UKCP registration. Alongside the training I have worked in a number of specialised services in London for patients experiencing Psychosis, Personality Disorders, Substance Misuse, and Eating Disorders. I have also worked with expectant mothers and new mothers who experience Pre/Post Natal Depression and Pre/Post Natal Psychosis.

Supervision and its Effects

"Abandoning my identification with my first analyst left me without a model for ‘The Woman’, who for a moment I thought did exist, which of course increased my anxiety. My second analysis enabled me to find my own version of femininity and to separate ‘the woman’ from ‘the analyst’. This distinction between the woman and the analyst helped me bear the anxiety of not finding a mould for the analyst. The analyst is not, in fact, a being. And, more importantly, the analyst's desire can only be verified a posteriori, as Miller asserts and I quote “it is through the experience of supervision that one finds evidence of the desire of the analyst, which is what confirms the analytic act.”

"THE PARTNER-SYMPTOM AS THE BONE OF AN ANALYSIS"

Initially Lacan left the libido to the imaginary and the symbolic as having only a mortification effect in the body but this did not hold so he had to change his perspective : “for there to be jouissance […] one needs the living body.” This means […] there are two effects of the signifier on the body: mortification and production of surplus jouissance. If the signifier kills jouissance it produces it as well. So, if one needs a body to enjoy one must also need a body to love, to experience eros, a romantic and sensual love, but the lack of sexual rapport require some kind of creative solution to the modes of jouissance that are always at odds. As Lacan states : “to love is to give what one doesn’t have” so we offer our lack-of-being to the partner-symptom.
